Photography as a Spiritual Practice in the Pandemic: Wabi-sabi

Photography as a Spiritual Practice

Guest Writer: George Taylor

“Greatness’ exists in the inconspicuous and overlooked details. Wabi-sabi is about the minor and the hidden, the tentative and the ephemeral: things so subtle and evanescent they are invisible to vulgar eyes.”

– Leonard Koren in Wabi-Sabi for Artists, Designers, Poets and Philosophers

Throughout the pandemic, photography has kept me (relatively) sane. It allowed me a respite from obsessing about the ugly things, and let me find the beauty in the world. Be it the majestic Grand Canyon, or smoke stacks- there IS beauty to be beholden in this world.

I offer these to you as a reminder that the world will come around again!
